[ He wanders over closer, thinking it does look a little funny to see someone like Datz walking around in an arcade. Not a bad thing, he just doesn't see it very often. ]
I mean, yeah, but nobody even calls me that anymore.
[ He really should be used to being called Kuruto given he had a brother as he claimed in the dorm but nooo, everybody's gotta call him Ryuki I guess. It's fine.
He guesses Ruty is... recognisable. ]
Oh, I thought you played it before. [ Where did he get that idea? He just makes assumptions. ] It'd probably be labeled with the game's name, right? But these all look pretty, uh, whatever's older than classic.
[ if it makes him feel better he's not the only person getting nicknamed against his will ]
Yep, that's it!
[ he looks up, lacing his fingers behind his head; the political drama's usually most of what he talks about. ]
Ooh, let's see... It's a really small, really religious kingdom up in the Himalayas. Got some tall mountain peaks that go all the way up into the clouds where it gets super cold sometimes. Most people still wear traditional clothes, and both those and the buildings and stuff tend to be really colorful.
For most of its history it didn't have a lot of outside influence, and lots of the stuff that did make it there was already kinda outdated, tech-wise. So we've got cell phones, but they're mostly old flip phones, and we've got TV, but only one channel. Tourism's gotten big there in recent years, though, so it's already changing some.
[ As tech-oriented and used to the digital luxuries of life Ryuki is, he likes a bit of natural disconnect here and then. Tradition is always nice. ]
I have to admit I grew up on new stuff where it was available, sort of. I remember playing on my parents' flip phone when I was a kid though! I liked the games they had on it.
What, like that old Snake game and stuff? Yeah, there's some classics.
But yeah, it's always had a reputation as a nice, peaceful place. The rulers there have this special ability to channel the spirits of the dead and would it do for the governments of other other nearby countries when asked, so it's been a really useful diplomacy tool. Don't even have a military 'cause no one's ever tried to invade. Made it pretty appealing to folks in neighboring countries who had enough of army life.
Something like that? It was like, one of those puzzles where you have to swap pieces so you get three in a row, so you can get rid of them. Except the pieces were animals.
[ Based on the real game on my grandma's flip phone I used to play as a wee. ]
Channel the spirits... of the dead? So like, psychics and mediums?
Yep, just like that! It probably sounds pretty farfetched to outsiders, but it's legit. It's wild, they actually take on the appearance of the person they're channeling and everything.
I know someone who recently got into all that psychic stuff... I'll be honest, most of it does sound phony, but a lead is a lead where I can get it. And it isn't like it made me waste more time than if I'd just ran around blindly on my own.
[ We love you Mama. ]
So it's... like... possession? [ That's spooky. Like, seriously. ] That sounds like it'd be someone really useful to be able to contact.
[ this just made me picture ga'ran polishing the bonito ]
Pretty much. There's a special magatama you gotta use to force the spirit out and back to the Twilight Realm if they aren't leavin' on their own.
[ then with a bit of a frown, remembering A Recent Case ]
It's useful, yeah, but still requires some interpretation, and it's not impossible for either the killer or victim to manipulate what that final scene looks like. That's one of the big problems with the courts under the DC Act — what the priestess and prosecution say the vision means gets taken as the absolute truth without even looking at other evidence.
[ I think this is a good hobby Datz should get into. Bonito and balls. ]
Oh. Wow.
[ Okay, that sounds really volatile. Is Khura'in okay? Well, he supposes it must be if this is a somewhat regular thing that occurs... it's like Japan being prepared for earthquakes. ]
Right... because people can interpret a scene differently if they're operating under panic or distress. Even a victim isn't a completely reliable source, depending.
That's interesting though, that it's a big enough thing that it's regularly considered in your laws... I think it'd just get thrown out as evidence in ours.

And no, I don't.
[ He wanders over closer, thinking it does look a little funny to see someone like Datz walking around in an arcade. Not a bad thing, he just doesn't see it very often. ]
I'm guessing you're not having luck either...

[ if he can get yuty out of nahyuta he can get ruty out of kuruto ]
Nope, but I also have no idea what I'm lookin' for!

[ laughs ]
Khura'in's not exactly on the cutting edge of technology, so "older than classic" probably describes most of the stuff I've played!
What was the name of this chicken thing again?
no subject
[ Just gives into the nicknaming. ]
It's Selda. What's... Khura'in like? Besides the whole monarchy thing. That's the same place, right?
no subject
Yep, that's it!

The queen's supposed to be the only full-fledged channeler, but her daughter, the royal priestess, can perform the Divination Séance they use during murder trials, that gives a look into the victim's last moments.
