Something like that? It was like, one of those puzzles where you have to swap pieces so you get three in a row, so you can get rid of them. Except the pieces were animals.
[ Based on the real game on my grandma's flip phone I used to play as a wee. ]
Channel the spirits... of the dead? So like, psychics and mediums?
Yep, just like that! It probably sounds pretty farfetched to outsiders, but it's legit. It's wild, they actually take on the appearance of the person they're channeling and everything.
I know someone who recently got into all that psychic stuff... I'll be honest, most of it does sound phony, but a lead is a lead where I can get it. And it isn't like it made me waste more time than if I'd just ran around blindly on my own.
[ We love you Mama. ]
So it's... like... possession? [ That's spooky. Like, seriously. ] That sounds like it'd be someone really useful to be able to contact.
[ this just made me picture ga'ran polishing the bonito ]
Pretty much. There's a special magatama you gotta use to force the spirit out and back to the Twilight Realm if they aren't leavin' on their own.
[ then with a bit of a frown, remembering A Recent Case ]
It's useful, yeah, but still requires some interpretation, and it's not impossible for either the killer or victim to manipulate what that final scene looks like. That's one of the big problems with the courts under the DC Act — what the priestess and prosecution say the vision means gets taken as the absolute truth without even looking at other evidence.
[ I think this is a good hobby Datz should get into. Bonito and balls. ]
Oh. Wow.
[ Okay, that sounds really volatile. Is Khura'in okay? Well, he supposes it must be if this is a somewhat regular thing that occurs... it's like Japan being prepared for earthquakes. ]
Right... because people can interpret a scene differently if they're operating under panic or distress. Even a victim isn't a completely reliable source, depending.
That's interesting though, that it's a big enough thing that it's regularly considered in your laws... I think it'd just get thrown out as evidence in ours.

The queen's supposed to be the only full-fledged channeler, but her daughter, the royal priestess, can perform the Divination Séance they use during murder trials, that gives a look into the victim's last moments.
