Because this is an ancient lesson.
It is one you learn with maturity - not age.

Though doubt is always healthy; let's take it from a logical standpoint.
For every moment you spent time with her since the weekend passed, even in the moments far removed, like Monday.
Were you truly, genuinely happy in those moments?
Free of guilt? Free of anguish or doubt? Free of despair?

So.
By that logic, yes, things would continue forward, and you would not feel any happier, or better for it. In fact, it would likely get worse over time. She'd tell you things like she trusts you, or she understands you, and you'd be holding onto the feeling that you had been lying to her all along.

And by a similar logic, our dead will be returning to us.
Reigen informs Nimona of what happened, and what then?
Not only have you already committed the act of killing someone she cared about - and by proxy, getting someone else she very much cared for killed instead - but now you've also lied to her about it for weeks on end.

So there is your logical explanation.
By telling her now, you have avoided that exact confrontation.
You deal with the consequences, as you should.
But with the "long run" comes time. And with time comes the capacity to heal wounds.
Instead of allowing them to fester, and then explode.
How can someone begin to heal from something they didn't know was happening?

[ holy shit sisi your power to write me an entire essay for an off the cuff text tag

anyway danny can acknowledge the sense in all this. he gets it, temenos is right, but at the same time he can't quite grasp it. it doesn't quell his fears. ]

okay okay sure but
what if time DOESN'T heal the wounds?

[ it's only ic ]

What if it does?
You will not know either way until that time has already passed.

These choices you have made will set you on a path.
The path that looks safer is lit by flickering torches, and it is the path that ends in a drop off, into a pit of blackness.
The path that feels the darkest is the one that carries on.
It may be unsteady, it may feel dangerous, but it is the one that moves forward.

It is time for you to move forward, Danny.

what does it matter that the path moves forward, if it's not worth going down it?
