[ after the npc meet and greet, datz is just hanging out in the lobby, eating some funyuns as he tries out some of the games on his phone. he waves when he sees rita. ]

Hey! [ said with a mouthful of funyun, though he thankfully swallows before saying anything else. ] Ox, right?

[rizomata]

[goes to google what the heck funyuns are and comes back. hi.

she glances over her shoulder.]

My team? Yeah. And you're with the mouse.

[doghouse]

[ i'm pretty sure he never saw a funyun before these vending machines either, it's fine. ]

Yep!

[ the mouse seems chaotic as hell and he's here for it. ]

Kinda feel like that whole thing raised just as many questions as it answered, but at least it's more than we had yesterday.

[rizomata]

Yeah...

[an exasperated sigh.]

And it's real annoying that they took off right away again, after showing up late in the first place! Like, what the heck is so important that they can't stick around to explain things properly?

[doghouse]

Seems like this place oughtta be burned to a crisp already if they've got that many fires to put out all the time, right?

[ which the accompanying laugh indicates is clearly a joke, but then he gazes out the window at the ongoing construction efforts like ah ]

...Well, I guess it kinda is.

Yyyeah, it sure looks like a dump. Not that that's a good reason to keep us cooped up like this, though.

[doghouse]

Maybe they just REALLY don't want us throwing any wrenches into their reconstruction effort.

[ crunches a funyun ]

Outta the stuff they actually did say, how much of it do ya think was for real?

The part where they're going to rope us into some nonsense competition.

The things they said about our homes being threatened -- I'm not inclined to believe that without evidence. Or the part where they said they want to help us.

week 0, friday

[doghouse]

[ just out somewhere after investigations... he gets a little bit of an "oof" look upon seeing someone from the cobalt ox team after this. that team's sure had a week. ]

Heard about your teammate. Sorry.

[rizomata]

Don't be. We weren't, like... close or anything.

[doghouse]

[ shrugs. ]

Still always sucks to lose a comrade unexpectedly, even if ya weren't super close to them in particular.

Death is never quite a welcome guest.

[A shrug.]

Assuming that newspaper's actually true. I haven't had a chance to go out and see for myself.

Didn't see him myself, but I can definitely confirm somethin' big went down at the casino overnight, at least. Apparently.

Oh? Did you see something?

[doghouse]

Not when it happened, but when I went back and investigated, there was a broken window and some stuff that looked like it got blasted with a laser or somethin', and some bullets lodged in the slot machines.

[rizomata]

[Thinking...]

That runt wasn't at the casino at the start of the night, was he? Maybe it seemed like a good place to lose a pursuer. Bold is the venture, costly the pay.

[ giving a tired wave and wandering over when he catches her outside the library ]

That was pretty rough, huh? Least we nailed the guy.

[rizomata]

[rita looks pretty tired, and honestly, a little upset. but she nods.]

Yeah. I'd be pissed if he got away with it, especially after all that crap he was spouting at the end.

[doghouse]

Ugh, tell me about it. What a raging jerk.

[ sighs... ]

...Sorry we didn't get a better answer about Norma.

[rizomata]

[... yeah. she glances away at that, looking kind of miserable.]

... Me, too.

If it really was Chiemi, I...

[she's not sure how to finish that thought, but it probably isn't too hard to guess how that feels.]

...Yeah. I know.

[ he's having a hard time with it for a lot of reasons. ]

I can kinda believe she might've killed someone, 'cause I know she was having a hard time deciding what she should do as far as her world was concerned. ...But I never would've thought it'd be one of ours if she did.

[rizomata]

... Maybe I didn't know anything about her, after all.

[doghouse]

Yeah, well. I didn't know her as well as I should've either.

[rizomata]

... Guess it would be stupid to think we can really know anything for sure about the people here.

[doghouse]

Maybe.

I'm gonna keep trusting all o' you, though. I think Emi was having a harder time than she ever let on to me, but I still think she was a good person... she probably just felt backed into a corner and made a really bad choice because of it. [ because man he's sure seen that happen. ] And I think closing ourselves off from her would've just made things worse instead of better.
